Sheffield Wednesday are working on completing the loan signing of centre back Aden Flint from Stoke City, a report from the Sheffield Star has revealed.

Flint only joined joined Stoke back in the summer transfer window, arriving on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Cardiff City.

The 33-year-old has however, struggled for game with the Potters this season, making just nine appearances for the club.

As a result, it now looks as though the centre back could be on the move again, in the final days of the window.

According to this latest update, Sheffield Wednesday are now increasingly likely to secure the services of Flint, on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

Flint previously had a loan spell with the Owls during the 2020/21 season, but managed just four appearances for the club before seeing that stint at Hillsborough cut short due to injury.

If confirmed, Flint could become Sheffield Wednesday's first signing of the January transfer window, as they look to continue their push for automatic promotion from League One this season.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a rather useful signing for Sheffield Wednesday to make.

With Mark McGuinness having been recalled from his loan spell with the club by Cardiff City earlier this month, the Owls do need to add to their options before the window closes.

That is something they can do with Flint, whose physical presence and experience should make him a more than useful asset in their push for promotion back to the second-tier.

Indeed, given the centre back himself has been struggling for game time, he too should benefit from this move, meaning it ought to make sense for all involved.
