Sheffield Wednesday are close to striking a deal with Manchester City for Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, with the teenager expected to arrive at Hillsborough on a permanent deal.

Garry Monk is looking to oversee a major overhaul of the playing squad at Hillsborough this summer, with the task to bring in young, hungry players to help Wednesday get moving in the right direction.

On the back of a goalless draw with Huddersfield Town last night, Monk has confirmed talks are ongoing with regard to recruitment and Yorkshire Live has reported that a deal for Dele-Bashiru is drawing closer.

Quiz: Do you know what shirt number each of these 14 Sheffield Wednesday players wear?

The talks between Wednesday and City are described as advanced, with the deal set to be a permanent one.

The 19-year-old, who is comfortable in defence or midfield, hasn’t featured in City’s senior side, but he’s played amongst their under-21s in the Football League Trophy, making four appearances in 2019/20.

Other appearances within the City ranks this season have come in the Premier League 2, whilst Dele-Bashiru has also featured in the UEFA Youth League, testing himself against Europe’s best youngsters.

The summer will see Wednesday – and potentially Dele-Bashiru – preparing for another year in the Championship after a tough 2019/20 campaign.

The Verdict

This is the type of signing that Wednesday fans are going to want to see this summer, with Monk looking to take the club in a different direction after a tough few years.

It’s time to shift the old guard out of Hillsborough and focus on the future, with Dele-Bashiru a good place to start.

He’s got bags of potential and tying him up permanently is a good place for Wednesday to start a key summer.
