Speaking to the Sheffield Telegraph, Carlos Carvalhal has revealed he has chosen to ignore online criticism and focus on the opinion of fans on the terraces, amid Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion push.

Wednesday’s manager is a user of social media site Twitter and has received regular criticism online during the Owls’ poor run of form, which has seen them pick up just one victory in their last seven Sky Bet Championship fixtures.

Carvalhal’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Barnsley on Saturday afternoon, a result that saw Wednesday slip out of the Championship Play-Offs for the first time since December.

Speaking about his decision to ditch Twitter, Carvalhal revealed: “I have not looked at Twitter in maybe the last two or three months, I decided I must protect myself.

“Sometimes the critics don’t go to the games. Of course, these kind of things can affect me which is why I prefer to be out of social media.

“I prefer to receive the signals of the 5,000 fans who were at Barnsley. They trust in us and gave us a big support. These are my fans. This is my club. This is Sheffield Wednesday.”

Wednesday are currently seventh in the Championship table, trailing the top-six by one point, with seven fixtures of the season remaining.

The first of those seven remaining fixtures comes this evening, when Carvalhal’s side to local rivals Rotherham United for yet another South Yorkshire Derby.

Carvalhal will be confident his side will pick up three points against Rotherham, whose relegation to League One was confirmed after defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
