Sheffield Wednesday late summer transfer interest lies with Aden Flint and Kenneth Zohore, as Garry Monk aims to bolster his squad ahead of Friday evening’s deadline.

Monk has led Wednesday to five points from the opening four fixtures of the Championship season, but his focus in the last week has been on the remainder of the transfer window.

Cardiff City defender Flint is a wanted man, as is West Brom forward Zohore.

Quiz: Do Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have these 10 things in common?

Dom Howson has provided an update on the pair in his Yorkshire Live Q&A: “Flint and Zohore would be excellent signings and round off a very good window. Flint would give them extra defensive cover and Zohore has proven he can be a handful at this level.”

Discussing the likelihood of Wednesday getting a deal done for the pair, Howson went on to say: “I think Flint might be more difficult to pull off than Zohore but we will have to see what happens.”

Flint, 31, is yet to feature for Cardiff in the 2020/21 campaign, but he’s a seasoned campaigner in terms of the Championship and has played for both Bristol City and Middlesbrough at this level.

Zohore won promotion with West Brom in the Championship last season, but he scored just three goals and wasn’t a leading player in Slaven Bilic’s squad.

The Verdict

Both these players would elevate the squad at Wednesday.

Flint is a defender with a lot of experience and his flaws would be addressed in Monk’s three-man defence, whilst his attributes would also be very useful.

In terms of Zohore, it is hard to imagine that he’d be prolific, but he’d be another body in the Wednesday attack, which isn’t a bad thing at all.

These deals are in a race against time, though.
