Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is confident Lucas Joao’s loan move to Blackburn Rovers will have a benefit for all parties involved, reports the Sheffield Star.

Joao joined Owen Coyle’s side on-loan until the end of the season, during the January transfer window and made his debut in last week’s defeat to Leeds United.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star about that move, Carvalhal said: “Lucas is a player who we have a lot of confidence in.

“He has more chance to play at Blackburn. He’s a player that I’m sure will do well and score goals.”

The Portuguese forward joined Wednesday in 2015, and has made over 40 appearances for the Yorkshire side, including a late cameo against Hull City in the Play-Off final last season.

The 23-year-old has failed to impress at Hillsborough this season, however, though Owls boss Carvalhal did not rule out Joao having a future at the club:

“Lucas will probably come back to Sheffield Wednesday in four or five months more ready to play at our club.”

The Owls moved back into the play-off places on Friday night, following a 1-0 victory over Wigan Athletic. Over the course the of the January transfer window, the Portuguese added the likes of Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes to his striking ranks.

Attentions are now turned to this coming Friday when Carvalhal’s side host Birmingham City as they look to keep up their battle for a top six finish.
