Former Sheffield Wednesday prospect Sean Clare hasn't quite completed his switch to Scottish side Heart of Midlothian, despite turning down moves to the Championship, according to the Sheffield Star.

The Edinburgh side are currently five points clear of Celtic at the top of the table, with Clare in the crowd this weekend as they won against Motherwell ahead of his big move.

The 21-year old admitted that he chose Hearts over clubs from England, not only in the Championship but also the top flight.

"I really took my time on the decision," he told the Star. "There was interest in England, from the Premier League and the Championship."

The deal isn't as straightforward as most though, due to Clare's age there is a degree of compensation due to the Owls, with a figure of around £130,000 being suggested by the report. Hearts manager Craig Levein admitted there was still work to do to get it over the line.

"He's a Sheffield Wednesday player essentially because he is still subject to training compensation," said the former Scotland manager. "We are just trying to get that whole thing sorted out."

The Verdict

Whilst this is a big move for Clare, it is a crying shame for Jos Luhukay to see such a promising young player leave the club as he has.

There's the slight silver lining of compensation, but with their recent transfer troubles Clare would surely have been closing in on the first team picture.
