Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao is set to hand in a transfer request at Hillsborough, after the Owls rejected two bids for him, according to Justin Allen of The Sun.

The 25-year-old was an important player for Sheffield Wednesday last season and scored ten goals in 31 Championship appearances for the Owls.

However, it has now been revealed that the Portuguese attacker now wants to leave Hillsborough, after the Owls turned down offers from two unnamed Championship clubs for him.

Sheffield Wednesday rejected bids from two of their Championship rivals for Joao, because they did not meet their £8million valuation.

Joao joined Sheffield Wednesday from Portuguese side Nacional in 2015 and has been an important player for the club over the past few seasons.

The forward recently signed a new deal with the Owls to extend his stay at Hillsborough until the summer of 2021, but it seems as though his time with the club could be coming to an end.

The Verdict

Joao has been an important player for Sheffield Wednesday over the past few seasons and I'm sure Owls fans will be disappointed to see him leave Hillsborough.

The striker clearly wants to pursue a new challenge and is obviously frustrated that Sheffield Wednesday have denied him the chance to speak to other clubs, so handing in a transfer request is the next logical step if he wants to try to force a move.

He's still got two years remaining on his contract at Hillsborough, so Sheffield Wednesday will be in a strong position when it comes to negotiating with rival clubs and they could be able to hold out for a decent fee for him.

If they can get a decent free for Joao, then it might be best to move him on this summer, as there's little point in having a player in the dressing room who doesn't want to be there.
