Sheffield Wednesday are in big trouble this season, and even the loan window being open is not going to change that.

The Owls are under a transfer embargo, and it has been reported that manager Jos Luhukay was unaware of the club’s problematic position.

Having seen Jack Hunt and Jordan Rhodes leave, and unable to bring in replacements, the club look in trouble with a threadbare squad with a lack real of depth.

Fernando Forestieri was a deadline day target for Premier League Cardiff City, but nothing materialised on that front.

And keeping him will only paper over the cracks that Luhukay’s side are in big trouble this season having been placed under an embargo and with manager seemingly having no idea.

It is shambolic for there to be no communication when fans are waiting and expecting signings and left wanting and waiting.

The loan window being open will not change the fact that they now look like a side that are doomed to a relegation battle this year.

The Owls lost last weekend on the opening day of the season away to Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

And after a summer of woes for Wednesday fans would not have been impressed with last week’s results, despite putting up a brave right.

It could be a feeling Owls' fans experience more than once this season.

The news of the embargo this week and the window shutting after a summer of departures springs little to no hope in the Hillsborough faithful.

It’s going to be a long hard season, and the Owls are in deep trouble.
