Sheffield Wednesday have today announced the appointment of Katrien Meire as their new Chief Executive Officer, the Sheffield Star has confirmed.

The former Charlton Athletic and Standard Liege CEO has been appointed by Chairman Dejphon Chansiri, who commented that the appointment is a 'key development' for his club, and that he is 'absolutely convinced' that Meire is the right person to take forward the day to day running of the Owls.

Meire only stepped down from a similar role along with a director post at Charlton at the end of 2017, and her appointment may well come as a surprise to many Owls, who were hoping to hear news of a managerial appointment, not someone in the boardroom.

Wednesday have been in tatters for the last few weeks, embarking on a dire run of form and losing manager Carlos Carvalhal, who has since gone on to join Swansea City.

They are yet to make any sort of announcement about a new manager, but Chansiri will no doubt be hoping the appointment of someone of the stature of Meire can have an impact on that decision. Meire herself was delighted with the move, calling it a 'massive challenge at a massive club'.

Wednesday fans, what do you think? Good appointment? Let us know in the comments!
