A number of League One clubs are interested in signing Birmingham City striker Keyendrah Simmonds, a report from The Sheffield Star has claimed.

Previously a member of Manchester City's youth setup, Simmonds joined Birmingham from the Premier League giants back in the 2021 winter transfer window.

Since then however, the 21-year-old has struggled for opportunities at St Andrew's, making just two first-team appearances across all competitions for the Blues in the past season-and-a-half.

Now it seems as though that could prompt another move elsewhere for the striker, during the current transfer window.

According to this latest update, third-tier trio Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford United and MK Dons are all taking an interest in a potential deal for Simmonds.

It is thought that Wednesday manager Darren Moore is keen to reduce the age of his side, hence the interest in a younger player such as Simmonds, who apparently attracted interest from the Owls before joining Birmingham.

Despite the fact that there is still a year remaining on the striker's contract with Birmingham, it has been suggested that he could be allowed to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

The Verdict

This does feel like it could be a signing that is well worth pursuing for these sides.

You get the feeling they could all benefit from the addition of some extra attacking firepower this summer, and Simmonds could provide that for them.

Indeed, when you consider the potential the ex-England has shown, he may be able to thrive in League One, while if he is available on a free, this would be a low risk move financially as well.

With that in mind, you get the feeling it would not be a huge surprise if we were to see something of a battle for Simmonds' services over the course of the next few weeks.
