Sheffield Wednesday among clubs chasing 29-year-old free-agent with 14 international caps

Sheffield Wednesday are one of several EFL and international clubs interested in signing left-back Jazz Richards, a report from TeamTalk has claimed.

Richards is currently a free-agent after leaving Cardiff City earlier this year, meaning he can still sign for a new club despite the transfer window now being closed.

The defender, who made 57 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds after joining them from Fulham in 2016, having also represented the likes of Swansea, Huddersfield and Crystal Palace in his career, has also been capped 14 times by Wales since 2012.

Now it seems as though the left-back is attracting plenty of attention from across the football pyramid.

According to the latest reports, Sheffield Wednesday are interested in a move to bring Richards to Hillsborough, although it seems they are not the only side who are keen on the 29-year-old.

League One duo MK Dons and Fleetwood, as well as League Two side Salford, could reportedly also offer Richards the chance to return to the Football League this season.

Further abroad the defender is also said to be attracting attention from unnamed clubs from Spain, Greece, Cyprus and the USA, meaning it seems Richards might not be out of football for too much longer.

The Verdict

This could be a decent signing for Sheffield Wednesday.
Looking at the makeup of the Owls’ squad, it does look as though they are somewhat on options on the left-hand side of their defence, with the transfer market now closed for them to add one.
As a result, getting a deal done for Richards to fill that position could be a smart one for Garry Monk’s side to make sooner rather than later, due to the 29-year-old’s Welsh international experience at this sort of level, which means he should be ready to step in for Wednesday if needed.
Admittedly, his lack of game time and recent injury problems would be a cause for concern with regards to his fitness, but with little in terms of alternative options available for Monk and co. in the next few weeks, that is something they might just have to take a chance on with Richards.
