@TheNinetyTwo_ have revealed the average away attendances from the Sky Bet Championship so far this season, with Sheffield Wednesday currently ahead the likes of Aston Villa, Leeds United and Middlesbrough in the standings.

All four clubs mentioned on this list have been backed by big away followings so far this season, but it is Sheffield Wednesday who are averaging the biggest away attendance. On average, 3,306 supporters back Carlos Carvalhal’s side every time they have left Hillsborough this season.

Aston Villa’s average following is narrowly short of Sheffield Wednesday’s at 3,269. Whilst Leeds (3,189) and Middlesbrough (2,991) are slightly further behind.

Wednesday have been backed by large away followings throughout the season, but the club’s supporters have seen their side pick up three points on just one occasion away from Hillsborough, with that victory coming against Fulham in August.

Pressure is continuing to grow on Carvalhal at Hillsborough, after his side have managed to record just one victory in their last four Championship fixtures. That run of results has left the Owls with just 16 points from their opening 12 fixtures of the season, trailing the play-off places by four points.

The Owls will be looking for just their second away victory of the season this weekend, when they travel to the Pride Park Stadium to face Derby County.

The Verdict

Wednesday have taken some enormous crowds away from home with them this season, and it is no surprise to see the Owls leading this table at the current time.

Carvalhal’s side have disappointed away from Hillsborough this season, and it is easy to see why sections of the club’s supporters are becoming increasingly frustrated with the Wednesday boss.

This weekend, Wednesday face another tough task away from Hillsborough, and it will be interesting to see if Carvalhal can mastermind an away victory.
