Sheffield Wednesday centre back Dominic Iorfa has told Yorkshire Live that recent injury issues haven't helped the team's defensive record.

The Owls previously got off to a great start to the campaign from a defensive point of view as they kept five clean sheets in a row, with Sam Hutchinson having been a revelation alongside Iorfa at the heart of the backline.

However the former has since experienced problems through injury, meaning that the likes of Chey Dunkley and Liam Palmer have had to fill in.

Now Iorfa has admitted that the defensive injury problems that the club are experiencing has been catching up on both he and his teammates:

"Ideally, obviously, the more you play with somebody, you build a relationship with someone.

"That hasn't happened this season. All I can do, whoever comes in, work hard and train hard together. It is nice when you get someone you're playing week in, week out with."

Despite their recent issues, Wednesday are still sitting pretty in the Sky Bet League One table and will now be looking to push on after the international break.

The Owls are back in league action this weekend as they travel to The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday to take on AFC Wimbledon.

The Verdict

Iorfa certainly makes a good point from the team's point of view but at the end of the day football is a squad game and you have to learn to adapt to these problems.

The Owls have certainly benefitted from the fact that Darren Moore has put together a good side that has plenty of options, otherwise they could have struggled.

So far they haven't been really impressive and there is certainly a feeling that there is more to come from this team moving forwards.

If they can tighten up at the back again on a regular basis, they will be a very hard team to get the better of.
