Fernando Forestieri has insisted that it is time for Sheffield Wednesday to give something back to their supporters, ahead of the Italian’s first-team return this afternoon.

Sheffield Wednesday have struggled in the Sky Bet Championship this season, with a lengthy injury list, combined with disappointing results, leaving the Owls 17th in the table ahead of the final eight fixtures of the season.

Jos Luhukay is slowly getting the bulk of his players back, with Barry Bannan and Sam Hutchinson both featuring in the 2-1 victory over Leeds United prior to the international break.

This weekend it is the turn of Forestieri to return for the Owls, with Luhukay confirming that the Italian, who has missed large parts of the season with a knee injury, will be involved in the matchday 18 against Preston North End.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star ahead of his comeback this afternoon, Forestieri spoke passionately about giving Wednesday’s supporters something back following a disappointing season:

“I hope I can play some good part (against Preston).

“I am sure me and the players that are here will give 200 per cent.

“We need to give something to the fans because they deserve it.

“We need to give them something important.”

So far this season, Forestieri has featured on just two occasions for the Owls this season, with the 28-year-old completing just 99 minutes of league action in blue and white.

The Verdict

Forestieri’s return will be a huge boost for everyone associated with Sheffield Wednesday, as the Italian forward is key to the club’s chance of success.

Without him this season, the Owls have lacked a real link between defence and attack, which has been a problem all season.

The 28-year-old sounds like he is returning with a point to prove and looking to bring some positivity back to Hillsborough.
