Julian Borner has urged Jordan Rhodes to bounce back after his double disappointment against Stoke City.

The Sheffield Wednesday striker was named on the bench for the clash with the Potters before being introduced at half-time at Hillsborough.

However just 40 minutes after coming on Tony Pulis brought Rhodes off the pitch again, much to the frontman's disappointment.

Explaining the decision, Pulis said: "It was just for the team. I thought the team would benefit from that change. It is not the first time I have done it and it won’t be the last time.

"It’s not about Jordan; it’s about the team. I’m more concerned about the team than the individuals.

"We all have egos. We all have pride. Jordan will be disappointed but I will have a chat with him on Monday."

Being substituted after coming on from the bench is seen as something of a snub, and according to Borner the striker was disappointed by the decision.

Asked if Rhodes was disappointed, Borner told Yorkshire Live: "Yeah of course.

"But I think this is normal when you come on at half-time and then have to go back out after 30 or 40 minutes. It always hurts whether you are a striker or defender.

"He was disappointed, everybody was disappointed because we didn't win.

"Of course, Jordan has played a lot of games in the Championship and has scored a lot of goals. I think he will speak now with the gaffer on Monday and be ready for the next game."

The Verdict

Jordan Rhodes will no doubt be gutted after being brought off against Stoke City.

The striker is fighting for his future with Sheffield Wednesday and so he'll want to spend as much time on the pitch as possible.

Such a decision from Tony Pulis is a bit of a snub, and it'll be interesting to see how Rhodes and the other players respond to such a divisive decision in the coming days.
