Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Sheffield Wednesday’s Tom Lees has praised the work of Carlos Carvalhal, with the Portuguese manager set to lead the club to a second successive Play-Off appearance.

Carvalhal has been inspirational at Hillsborough, taking the Owls from a mid-table side and turning them into one of the most feared teams in the Sky Bet Championship.

Just under 12-months ago Wednesday surprised many and reached the Play-Off final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Hull City in the Wembley showcase.

Despite a difficult start to the 2016/17 campaign, Carvalhal now looks set to guide Wednesday to another top-six finish, with his side currently fifth and two-points clear of seventh-placed Leeds United.

Reflecting on what Carvalhal has done at Hillsborough, Lees said: “We have been in contention to go up in both seasons under Carlos which shows the job he has done.”

Lees also admitted that despite their promising position, Wednesday have achieved nothing yet, he continued: “We did well last season to achieve what we did but we have not done anything this season. We know we will be judged on the next couple of matches. The rest of the season is irrelevant.”

Wednesday continue their quest for a Play-Off finish this weekend when they face Derby County, before concluding their season with fixtures against Ipswich Town and Fulham.

Carvalhal’s side are aware they cannot afford any slip-ups between now and the end of the season, with just two-points separating themselves, Fulham and Leeds.
