Barry Bannan has praised his Sheffield Wednesday teammates, after the injured midfielder watched on as Jos Luhukay’s side picked up an impressive three points against Derby County last night.

Luhukay picked up his first three points in the Sky Bet Championship last night, as a Lucas Joao brace secured a 2-0 victory over automatic promotion-chasing Derby at Hillsborough.

Bannan currently finds himself on the sidelines, but took to his personal Twitter account to deliver a message following last night’s victory, labelling his teammates as outstanding against the Rams.

That victory lifted Luhukay’s side to 15th in the Championship table ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, with the Owls now nine points clear of the relegation zone and seemingly clear of trouble heading into the final 15 fixtures of the season.

Bannan has been one of a number of players to be unavailable to Luhukay, with injuries really piling up against the Dutchman since his arrival in South Yorkshire.

The 28-year-old midfielder has not featured in 2018, with his last appearance coming against Norwich City in early December.

Earlier in the week, the Scottish international moved to his Twitter account to confirm he was heading to London to see a specialist about his current injury troubles.

The Verdict

Last night’s performance and result was exceptional, with Sheffield Wednesday producing one of their best results against Derby.

Bannan was clearly impressed, and everybody associated with the Owls will be hoping that last night’s result will be the catalyst for some improved performances between now and the end of the season.
