Brentford striker Ollie Watkins has been linked with a move to Sheffield United after his fine start to life as a central striker in the Championship this campaign.

Previously used as a winger, Watkins already has seven goals to his name in league football this season after being moved to a central role since the departure of Neal Maupay to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

Now, Watkins is being linked with a move to Premier League side Sheffield United for £15 million despite the Blades having snapped up Oli McBurnie and Callum Robinson across the summer as Chris Wilder's men still seek to adjust to life in England's top tier.

Watkins had originally sparked interest from Crystal Palace in January and August, close to a £11 million move to Selhurst Park in the latter transfer window, but Palace slowly cooled their interest on the former Exeter City forward as Brentford looked to avoid losing their Maupay replacement just weeks after the Frenchman had himself departed for a higher division.

Now, Watkins has revealed that the interest shown in him by Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace did turn his head in the summer via West London Sport.

“When there’s speculation everyone’s head gets turned but it’s normal,” he said.

“I’m really happy here now and I think it really shows with the form I’m in and long may that continue. I’m feeling good."

Sheffield United are currently 13th in the Premier League after eight games since returning to the top flight.

The Verdict: Ollie Watkins is right to avoid a move to the Premier League just yet, with one more season in the Championship probably the right idea by the forward as he looks to keep developing in English football's second tier before making the step up to the Premier League.
