Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic is said to favour keeping George Baldock at the club as he looks to keep faith with a 3-5-2 formation, as per a recent report by The Star.
The 28-year-old right back has been strongly linked with a move to Celtic in recent days, with the Glasgow side said to view the former MK Dons man as one of their priority options this summer.
However it is said that Jokanovic is keen to maintain the primary formation which has brought the Blades so much success in the past, with the Serb viewing Baldock as a good option for the spot of right wing back as part of a midfield four/back five.
Celtic aren’t willing to give up on their pursuit of the defender despite this stance, with the Hoops said to be confident that the Blades will come to the negotiating table due to the fact that they view Jayden Bogle as their first choice option in that area of the field.
Bogle is several years Baldock’s junior and is viewed as his long term successor as a result at Bramall Lane.
Quiz: What was the score the last time Sheffield United played each of these 25 teams?
An ex-Oxford United player, Baldock’s current contract with the club expires next summer.
I think Jokanovic has taken up the position of not wanting to disrupt what is a very settled squad at Sheffield United for the time being and for that reason I can’t see them allowing a fire sale to take place.
They are under no pressure to sell this summer and I think it would take a good offer from Celtic to prize him away from Bramall Lane.
Despite his age he still has a lot to offer at Championship level and I think it is clear that the manager appreciates his talents.
I’d be very shocked if he did leave over the coming months as for me he is still one of the first names on the team sheet in the Steel City.
