Sheffield United's return to the Championship has been met with somewhat of a mixed reaction from their transfer recruitment, having signed a number of players from the lower depths of the Football League.

Chris Wilder gained back-to-back promotions with the Blades and Northampton Town prior to that, so his credentials are highly regarded at Bramall Lane and it is very unlikely he'll be axed after a few dismal games, if that is the case.

To ensure a run of appalling form doesn't become a reality, United should make a swoop to persuade current free agent Marvin Emnes to sign for the Yorkshire outfit in the very near future.

Of course, being available means a club doesn't have to get a deal wrapped up within the window but if Sheffield United were eager for his services, then they should get the 29-year-old in a red and white striped shirt imminently.

Having endured relegation with Blackburn Rovers during a season-long loan spell at Ewood Park last term, Emnes will be wanting to re-capture the performances that saw him as a key figure in the Middlesbrough ranks six years ago.

Those admirable displays meant Swansea City came sniffing but Marvin Emnes' time in the Premier League came to an end last term, when the Welsh club released the Dutchman after a handful of appearances in his three years there.

His goal scoring is not necessarily prolific but the pace, and pivotal experience, will be what Sheffield United are in desperate need of and it can only end up being a positive signing for boss Chris Wilder.
