Sheffield United have had a fall from grace in recent years and have had a decade to forget.

After being relegated in 2010/2011, the Blades spent six seasons in the third tier of English football and couldn’t crack the code of League One.

Under various managers, the Sheffield club managed three play-off finishes, but were unsuccessful in all attempts.

Chris Wilder took the reins and in 2017, and Sheffield United returned to the second tier as they coasted through the division, breaking records along the way.

Overall, it has been a poor decade for Sheffield United, and probably their worst era for a long time.

With bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday spending a lot of time above United, it has been an embarrassing time to be a Blade in the main.

Relegation to League One in 2010/11 was the worst moment of the club’s recent history.

Kevin Blackwell lasted a number of games before Gary Speed took over, and then, Micky Adams got the job from December onwards.

None of the three coaches could get success out of United, who were relegated from the Championship.

Both Sheffield clubs were in League One during the 2011/2012 season and the Owls had the better.

With just months to go of the season, Wednesday scalped United in what proved to be a massive result against not just city rivals, but promotion rivals.
