Sheffield United are leading the race to sign Swansea City defender Joe Rodon, according to reports from The Sun on Sunday (27th October, page 61).

The 22-year-old has been a regular for the Swans this season, making 13 appearances in the league and helping Steve Cooper's side climb to 10th spot in the Sky Bet Championship table.

The central defender has also made three appearances for Wales in their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign this season, and has enjoyed a positive start to the campaign.

But after taking last season's top goalscorer Oli McBurnie from them in the summer, Sheffield United are now believed to be leading the race for Rodon.

The Sun on Sunday claims that the Blades are willing to pay around £20m for the defender, the same amount they purchased McBurnie for in the summer.

Chris Wilder's side have made a fantastic start to life back in the Premier League, and have conceded only eight goals from their first 10 league matches.

But with the likes of Chris Basham, Richard Stearman and Phil Jagielka all ageing, a new, long-term option could be beneficial for the Yorkshire club.

Swansea face arch rivals Cardiff City at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon, as they look to get back to winning ways in the Championship.

The Verdict

This would be an excellent signing for Sheffield United if they managed to pull it off.

Rodon is an excellent, ball-playing centre-half who is tall and commanding in the air, and he would fit seamlessly into life in the top-flight.

He is only young and would be a tremendous acquisition for the Blades in the short-term and the long-term.
