Sheffield United are interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday forward Fernando Forestieri in the summer, according to reports from the Sun on Sunday (12/05, page 59).

The Blades will be looking to rebuild their squad in the summer, and strengthen their side ahead of a return to the Premier League following their automatic promotion from the Championship.

And, it is believed that United manager Chris Wilder is a "huge fan" of Wednesday's Forestieri, who has been a key player for their bitter rivals over the last few years.

The diminutive forward signed for the Owls from Watford in 2015, and the Italian has since gone on to score 38 goals in 115 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

The 29-year old, who has scored six goals and produced one assist this term, is highly-rated by Wednesday, and it is said that they will demand a price of around £14million for his services in the summer.

But Chris Wilder isn't believed to be put off by that lucrative price-tag, and will look to sign the attacker in the summer along with another attacking player.

The Verdict

This is a transfer story that is likely to dominate the headlines in Sheffield for weeks to come.

It would obviously be a massive kick in the teeth if United were to go and sign Forestieri, as he has been an important player for them over the years.

For me, I don't think he's worth anywhere near £14million, and he just hasn't done enough in the Championship to prove to me that he would cut it in the Premier League.
