After twelve seasons of hurt, Sheffield United will finally make their long awaited return to the Premier League next season, and they will hope for an extended stay this time around.

The planning has already started to ensure that that happens, and it is hard to deny that the early signs are promising for those around Bramall Lane.

Speaking to the Mirror, Blades chairman Kevin McCabe has revealed that their will be a "healthy" transfer budget available to manager Chris Wilder as he looks to build a squad capable of remaining in the top flight.

This will no doubt be a welcome piece of news to those around Bramall Lane, but they do not even need to look beyond the current Premier League table to see that it is not something that they can allow themselves to get carried away by.

When Fulham beat Aston Villa at Wembley in last season's play-off final, there was a large amount of excitement around The Cottagers' return to the top-flight, something only enhanced by a frantic summer of spending that saw Fulham bring in no fewer than twelve players for a total cost that topped the £100million mark.

The result however has been a disastrous season that saw relegation confirmed in the first game of April, with five matches of the campaign still to be played.

One of the problems for Fulham this season has been the inability to integrate those new signings into the side, and that is something that Sheffield United must be wary of heading into the transfer window.

The Blades' promotion has been thanks in no small part to the unique system of overlapping centre backs used by Wilder, one that would not be easy to adapt a whole new starting XI to in the space of a single summer before what is such an important campaign for the Blades.

Indeed, this current squad have become so effective in playing that system, that you feel they would already be capable to cause problems for plenty of top tier sides.

Now that the option to do so is there, it may be that there is a temptation to spend for Sheffield United, and while it will not hurt to boost their options in certain areas, Fulham have already demonstrated to them that they must not overhaul their starting XI.

The bulk of the current squad meanwhile, have already shown enough to suggest they could cope themselves.
