Sheffield United are set to raid the loan market this summer, with the Blades looking to bring some of England's 'top young talent' to Bramall Lane.

Slavisa Jokanovic has been the high-profile arrival in Sheffield this summer, with the Serbian turned to as Chris Wilder's successor with the Blades.

Attention will quickly turn to the transfer window and revamping a squad that finished bottom of the Premier League in 2020/21, suffering relegation back into the Championship in the process.

The Sheffield Star have reported that the relative overhaul of the squad Jokanovic is inheriting will see a number of loan players arrive.

No names are named, but it's been a common trend for successful sides in the Championship over recent seasons.

Marc Guehi has spent two seasons developing at Swansea City, with Chelsea trusting the Championship side with the development of the young defender.

Jokanovic's promotion-winning season with Fulham in 2017/18 saw Aleksandar Mitrovic (Newcastle United), Sheyi Ojo (Liverpool), Tomas Kalas, Lucas Piazon (both Chelsea) and Oliver Norwood (Brighton and Hove Albion) arrive to boost the squad that was in place at Craven Cottage.

The Verdict

This isn't really much of a surprise to learn, with it a common trend that we see a lot of right through the EFL.

Jokanovic has had success with the loan market previously and given the current financial climate, it makes even more sense to approach a market that is real value for money.

Picking up a youngster on a season-long loan rather than spending £5-10m on a player of that ilk makes complete sense. It's less risk and doesn't leave too much pressure on in terms of winning promotion.

Most Blades fans will be happy enough to learn this will be the club's approach.
