Sheffield United have had a fantastic start to the season and it appears that some of their youngsters are also having a great impact whilst out on loan.

Midfielder Ben Whiteman joined League One Doncaster Rovers initially until January and hit the headlines last week after scoring his first senior hat-trick.

He starred as Rovers came from behind to defeat Southend 4-1 to secure a much-needed three points for Darren Ferguson's men.

Whiteman has been an ever-present this season and had been impressing prior to his memorable game last time out.

The Blades scouting team have been keeping regular checks on the 21-year old and the club will make a decision on his future in January.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Whiteman himself is happy to extend his stay at the Keepmoat.

I think the main thing for me is to keep playing games and getting experience. Sheffield United are playing really well at the minute and I like it here, the boys are different class. I'd definitely like to stay until the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, he also praised the influence that Ferguson has had on him in his short spell.

You can't underestimate how good the manager is, and for me personally everyone’s been unbelievable.”

The Verdict

Chris Wilder will be happy to see that Ben Whiteman is doing so well out on loan and he will know it presents him with a nice problem in January.

Given the Blades start to the season and Whiteman's, an extended stay in Doncaster seems nailed on.

Although, it may depend on any business that Wilder can get done in the window.
