Sheffield United will test Swansea City and their stance over Oli McBurnie, with the Premier League outfit planning a £15m bid for the striker in the coming days.

Chris Wilder guided the Blades to the Premier League last season, just two years after the club won the League One title.

Now, he’s planning to bolster his squad with the addition of one of the Championship’s most clinical strikers.

According to a report in the Sun, Wilder will throw £15m Swansea’s way for McBurnie, as he looks to add to his striking options ahead of a Premier League bout with AFC Bournemouth on August 10.

In 42 appearances last season for Swansea, McBurnie scored 22 goals and registered four assists, leading the line well for the Swans who endured a steady Championship return.

The 23-year-old was on target twice against the Blades in the Championship last season, scoring in both fixtures as the Swans did the double over the South Yorkshire outfit.

It isn’t just Swansea that the Blades are looking to raid this summer, though, with the Sun also noting their interest in Luke Freeman at QPR, with Wilder keen on signing the playmaker.

The Verdict

McBurnie would be an outstanding addition at Bramall Lane. His game has improved massively in the last 12 months and his 22 goals in the Championship last season showed that he can deliver in a competitive division.

Of course, it is a step up to the Premier League and a £15m price-tag might weigh him down, but McBurnie is a player that plays with an arrogance and you’d back him to be a success in the top-flight.

Age is on his side and we’ve seen Wilder get the best out of David McGoldrick and Billy Sharp in the last year. Him getting his teeth stuck into McBurnie is an exciting prospect.
