Sheffield United are set to step up their interest in Scott Hogan and Sam Gallagher this week, with further talks planned between the club and the striking duo.

Chris Wilder has made it no secret that he wants to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season, with a report in the Sheffield Star claiming that further talks with Hogan and Gallagher are on the agenda.

The Blades have shown an interest in the duo, who currently represent Aston Villa and Southampton respectively.

Hogan has been at Villa Park for the last 18 months, making 50 Championship appearances, which have brought a return of seven goals.

Six of the 26-year-old’s goals came last season, as Steve Bruce’s side finished fourth in the Championship table and challenged for a Premier League return.

Southampton’s Gallagher spent time in the Championship last season, with the 22-year-old striker enjoying a season-long loan with Birmingham City.

Despite Birmingham’s struggles in the Championship, Gallagher contributed reasonably well, scoring six goals in 33 appearances for the Blues.

Sheffield United find their transfer kitty boosted this summer following the sale of David Brooks.

Brooks has linked up with AFC Bournemouth in a reported £12m deal.

The Verdict

Wilder seems to be in an ambitious mood this summer, with some high-profile names on his radar.

Hogan or Gallagher would improve Sheffield United’s options this summer, with both able to complement the likes of Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke.

Landing either of their reported targets would be another huge statement of intent from the Blades.
