According to reports from The Star, Championship new boys Sheffield United will decide whether to re-attempt the signing of Devante Cole only after analysing why the initial transfer collapsed.

Cole, currently of Fleetwood Town in League One, looked all but set for his move to the Blades only for talks to break down just hours before the player was due for his medical.

Formerly of the Manchester City academy, Devante Cole has scored an impressive four goals in four league games this season with goals against Northampton, Wimbledon, and Bristol Rovers.

Sheffield United’s decision to try again for the 22-year-old rests solely on the reasons behind the failures in the first place with Chris Wilder angered by the deadline day dealings.

The Verdict

There is a whole list of things that can go wrong during a transfer although it does seem strange that the talks broke down only a few hours before the player’s medical.

Whatever this investigation, or whatever United are calling it, finds out, Devante Cole would be a quality striker for them.

He’s proving that League One is a very comfortable league for him to play in so jumping up to the Championship could see the Blades get the best out of the young forward.
