Sheffield United have made a formal bid for Reading midfielder John Swift according to Berkshire Live.
The report claims that Chris Wilder’s side have tabled a bid in the region of £3million plus add-ons for the former Chelsea midfielder, who has caught the eye with some impressive performances for the Berkshire-based side.
Swift has scored five goals and been on hand to provide 11 assists in his 39 appearances for Reading this season, who currently sit 16th in the Championship table.
It has previously been claimed by Football Insider that Leeds United are also interested in signing Swift in the summer, with Reading being likely to cash-in on the midfielder to comply with FFP regulations.
Swift has made 144 appearances in total for the Royals since moving to the Madejski Stadium, but has been unable to fire them to promotion into the Premier League.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Leeds will step up their interest with a formal bid for Swift now, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to add reinforcements to his squad ahead of potential life back in the top-flight.
Leeds are currently sat top of the Championship table, and are well on course to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League with six matches remaining in this year’s campaign.

I think this would be a good move for both parties involved.
Swift is more than capable of making the step up to the Premier League, and he has been a rare bright spark in a frustrating few seasons for Reading.
They’re unlikely to win promotion this season, so it seems likely that Mark Bowen will be forced to sell some of his key players to improve the club’s financial position heading into next year’s campaign.
Sheffield United could benefit from having a player of Swift’s creative ability in their squad, and I think he’d be a solid addition to their team.
