Sheffield United are on an excellent run of form so far this season, having won all of their last four matches with Chris Wilder's side currently sitting top of the Championship table.

The good news keeps on coming for Blades fans as defender Chris Basham looks set to sign a new deal with the club in the near future.

The news comes after Blades boss Chris Wilder was full of praise for the centre-back, following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Hull City at Bramall Lane courtesy of a goal from striker David McGoldrick to send his side a point clear at the top.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, "It's always ongoing," the Blades boss added. "I think Bash is immense, a manager's dream. He plays a number of positions without complaining and gives his all for the cause.

"He's fully deserved a new deal, and that's got to be the carrot for the rest of the group; go and earn a new deal."

Basham is currently Sheffield United's longest serving player and recently reached 200 appearances for the club and was part of the squad for the win over Hull.

The defender's current deal expires in the summer of 2019 after Basham signed a 2-year-deal with the club following the club's promotion from League 1 in 2017.

The 30-year-old has started every match of Chris Wilder's sides campaign and will be hopeful of featuring for the rest of the club's campaign this season.

The Blades face a tough challenge to maintain top spot as they travel to Frank Lampard's Derby County after the international break.
