Sheffield United have had a superb season and the good news continued last night after David Brooks signed a new four-year deal at the club. The 20-year old had attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, but has committed his future to the Blades.

His performances in recent weeks had seen the interest in Brooks step up, particularly as he ran riot in the 4-2 derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday. However, Chris Wilder promised fans that the youngster would be going nowhere and the new deal supports that. It's a good time to be at the club and the midfielder certainly has big ambitions for the future.

Obviously the aim here is to get to the Premier League. That's what the target us. It's a difficult task and we just want to do the best we can. We'll keep pushing on as a team and see where it takes us,” he told the Sheffield Star.

Brooks also dismissed the idea that he ever considered leaving, given how this season has gone. “I wanted to renew my contract and I was presented with the opportunity to do that. I'm very happy playing regular football in the Championship. That's all you want.”

The Verdict

What great news for Sheffield United! When the Premier League elite are linked with your player, fans would naturally worry. The money, exposure and fame that playing in the top-flight brings will attract anyone. However, it seems Brooks is a level-headed guy and realises that playing regularly for such a good club is the best move for his career. Now, he can concentrate on the football and keep exciting the Blades fans.
