Sheffield United saw their Premier League promotion confirmed on Sunday afternoon when rivals Leeds United failed to beat Aston Villa.

This secured the Blades' top-flight status after they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 on Saturday evening which meant Marcelo Bielsa's side could not afford to drop points against Villa.

The 1-1 draw between Leeds and Villa led to jubilant scenes in Sheffield, as players and supporters both celebrated their top-two finish.

Chris Wilder can now start planning for next season by weighing up any potential signings, while he must also ensure the nucleus of the promotion-winning squad remains intact.

The Blades' boss has now been handed a huge boost on this front, with goalkeeper Dean Henderson admitting he wants to extend his stay at Bramall Lane.

The Manchester United loanee has been ever-present in Sheffield United's Championship campaign, making a crucial contribution to his side's promotion push.

In the aftermath of their promotion, Henderson spoke of his emotions and declared his desire to stay in Yorkshire if a deal can be agreed.

"It made me really emotional to get this club back where they belong," he told the club website.

"I just told the gaffer then 'listen, don't let me leave', but obviously it comes down to the two clubs to agree on money."

Henderson has made 45 appearances for the Blades this season, since arriving at the club last summer following loan spells at Shrewsbury Town, Grimsby Town and Stockport County.

The Verdict

This should be one of Sheffield United's priorities in the summer.

Henderson has proved to be a great fit at Bramall Lane, and it is important Wilder has a strong element of continuity in his side going into next season.

The signing of Henderson would certainly set the right tone for the Blades' summer.
