Sheffield United will be in the hunt for new players this season as they look to build on their impressive return to Championship football last year.

The Blades and their passionate manager Chris Wilder were a breath of fresh air to the second tier last term, and were unlucky to not get in and among the top six after such an impressive campaign.

However, unlike a lot of the top clubs in the Championship, United do not have the riches to go splashing the cash on big names week in week out, and this means that Wilder and his staff have some difficult decisions to make about certain members of the current squad.

One player though who we at FLW think could be a certainty to be axed is attacking midfielder Ricky Holmes, who has been disappointing since completing a January move to Bramall Lane.

Valued at just shy of half a million at £425k on website Transfermarkt, the former Charlton and Northampton man could well be sacrificed by Wilder as he looks to make space in his squad and raise funds.

Holmes has simply not stepped up to the Championship plate as yet, and while an argument could be made for him needing a full pre season and being given another chance under Wilder, there will be some within the club who will no doubt be calling for him to go.

With Mark Duffy and David Brooks both ahead of him in terms of a starting berth, it could well be wise for United and Wilder to move on the tricky midfielder.

Blades fans, what do you think? Would you sell Holmes? Let us know in the comments!
