Sheffield United had an excellent first season back in the Championship last term, finishing in tenth and mounting a playoff charge for much of the campaign.

Chris Wilder's men drew plenty of plaudits for their efforts and the way they played their football, and next season the Blades will be hoping to kick on and make a run at the playoffs once more.

To do so, United simply must add to the squad in the summer. A half hearted January in terms of signings failed to really pay off, and the injury to Paul Coutts just before Christmas exposed the lack of depth and quality in the Blades squad.

However, United could have a calling card up their sleeve in terms of young attacker David Brooks, who has earned rave reviews and is already attracting Premier League attention after a stellar first season for the Blades.

United fans are no strangers to seeing their club sell top assets, but selling Brooks could come with good reason. In today's market, Brooks is likely to fetch at least £10m, and this is the sort of money manager Chris Wilder could well use to turn United into top two contenders.

While many will argue that Wilder may not see all that money, there has to be some belief that he will indeed be given any funds raised.

United need players in all positions to continue their push. Strikers, and central defenders are a must, while wages are already proving to be a stumbling block in the chase for Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman.

It would of course, be a shame to see Brooks leave, but there is an element of inevitability about his sale at some point anyway.

With many Championship clubs struggling with their finances and the three coming down looking some of the weakest relegated Premier League teams for a long time, could the moment be right for the Blades to cash in and invest in four or five quality additions to give them that genuine chance of promotion?

Blades fans, what do you think? Would you sell Brooks? Let us know in the comments!
