Sheffield United have started life back in the Championship in excellent fashion, notching up an impressive three wins in their first five games of the new campaign.

Boss Chris Wilder has gained plaudits for his side’s performances at home, where the Blades have a 100% record, but two defeats from two on the road will leave the former Northampton Town boss sweating.

The Blades are yet to score on the road, succumbing to defeats at Cardiff and Middlesbrough, and it is clear at this early stage that the club’s form at Bramall Lane could prove the difference between another year at this level, or a return to League One.

With just days remaining of the summer window, Wilder will look to put the finishing touches to his squad, and adding to his attacking options could become a priority.

Before three goals in their last fixture against Derby, United had only found the net on two occasions, with both of those goals coming in 1-0 wins at Bramall Lane.

One more striker would not go amiss, and the club should consider a swoop for Bristol Rovers’ Billy Bodin.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a potential target for several Championship sides after notching three goals in the league already this season, and the forward’s eye for goal is attracting interest from higher up the footballing pyramid.

Sheffield United should join the race for the player, who has 29 goals in 78 league appearances for the Pirates, and is ready to make the step up to the second tier.

The former Welsh U21 international would provide excellent competition to the likes of Ched Evans, Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke, giving Wilder more options going forward.

Wilder needs as many natural goalscorers in his ranks as possible, and with Bodin likely to be available for a reasonable fee in comparison to buying from another Championship club, the player is well worth the gamble.

Do you need another options up front, Blades fans?
