At the start of the transfer window, Blades boss Chris Wilder made it clear that a new attacking midfielder was on the top of his priority list, and after failing to sign any of his targets so far, it may be time for him to consider someone else.

Charlton's Ricky Holmes, and Plymouth Argyle's Graham Carey, were two targets Wilder had his eye on.

Unfortunately for the Blades, both midfielders have signed new contracts at their respective club since Wilder first declared interest, with it looking very unlikely either will join Bramall Lane this summer.

With that in mind, Wigan's Nick Powell, who is valued at £850k on transfermarkt, may be the perfect player to fill in the missing hole in Wilder's squad.

Recently suffering relegation to League One with Wigan, Powell will certainly be looking for a Championship club interested in his services, and Sheffield United would be a fantastic suitor to help develop his career.

The 23-year-old already has plenty of Championship experience under his belt, making over 50 appearances for Wigan, scoring 13 goals in the process, which shows he not only has great technical attributes and vision, but he also tends to be in the right place at the right time in order to bag himself a goal.

The Crewe-born midfielder was also signed for Manchester United back in 2012, before his move to Wigan, which shows how much potential he showed at a young age for Sir Alex Ferguson to want to sign him.

Powell is also known for his versatility, as Powell initially began his career as a forward, due to his goal scoring instincts, and has played as striker for Wigan in the past, but has more recently dropped down into an attacking midfield role due to his long range striking and passing abilities.

The only thing which may hold back the transfer would be Wigan's asking price for the attacker, as with two years still left on his contract, United may be looking over his valuation to secure Powell.

However, with the recent sale of Tottenham’s Kyle Walker to Manchester City, the Blades received a 10% sell on fee from Spurs, which hasn't left them short of money.

Regardless of the circumstances, Powell would be a fantastic signing if Wilder is able to lure him away from the Greater-Manchester based club, with the 24-year-old providing the attacking midfield cover that Wilder has been after.
