There is set to be a new arrival at Bramall Lane on this loan deadline day.

According to West London Sport, Queens Park Rangers striker Conor Washington is set to join Sheffield United on a season-long loan deal.

Sheffield United have been searching for a new striker for the majority of the summer and their pursuit looks to be coming to an end of deadline day as Washington edges closer to his switch.

The Northern Ireland international has struggled to make much of an impact at Loftus Road since his move from League One side Peterborough United in 2016, scoring a total of 13 goals in 92 games.

And with Premier League duo Tomer Hemed and Nahki Wells bolstering Steve McClaren's options up front recently, Washington has been deemed surplus to requirements.

The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his deal and he will spend the season on loan at Sheffield United.

Chris Wilder has identified Washington as the man to compete with Billy Sharp, Leon Clarke and David McGoldrick up front.

The Verdict

This is a really underwhelming signing for the Blades.

After being linked with Scott Hogan, Washington is a major downgrade and has a poor goal scoring record in the Championship.

Wilder will be hoping that he has a point to prove and can thrive in a new environment but it is not the marquee arrival Sheffield United fans would have hoped for.
