Chris Wilder has further talks with Aston Villa and Scott Hogan planned for this week, as Sheffield United look to complete a deal for the striker.

The window for permanent transfers closed earlier in the month, but up until Friday, EFL clubs can bring players in on loan, with Sheffield United amongst the clubs actively looking to strengthen.

A striker is on Wilder’s radar, with Hogan an option.

According to the Sheffield Star, Wilder has plans to hold further talks with Villa, as he looks to convince them to loan Hogan to the Blades for the season.

Hogan has been at Villa Park for around 18 months, making 54 appearances across all competitions in claret and blue, returning 10 goals.

Last season, the 26-year-old scored nine times across all competitions, with six of those coming in the Championship, as Villa finished fourth and reached the play-off final under Steve Bruce.

However, Hogan finds himself down the pecking order again this season, with Jonathan Kodjia gearing up for another season as the focal point of Bruce’s attack.

Sheffield United are willing to offer Hogan a route out of Villa Park, whilst Wilder also has a reported interest in Ashley Fletcher from Middlesbrough.

The Verdict

Sheffield United are desperate to get another striker on board, with Hogan clearly Wilder’s first choice.

Although the window closes in a matter of days, there is still a long way to go, with plenty of deals still to materialise.

Wilder and Sheffield United will hope that they can convince Villa into letting Hogan leave at this late stage.
