Swansea City have confirmed the news that striker Oli McBurnie has joined Premier League side Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Bramall Lane outfit as they gear up for their Premier League return, while McBurnie's departure now leaves Swansea short of firepower up top.

McBurnie has joined the Blades in a club-record deal after the two clubs agreed terms over a reported fee of £20million, which also makes the striker the most expensive Scottish footballer in history.

United boss Chris Wilder has been a long-time admirer of McBurnie and he has worked hard to get his man this summer, with Swansea confirming they rejected three previous bids for his services.

McBurnie was an integral figure for Swansea last season as they secured a 10th-placed finish in the Championship, with the forward scoring 22 goals in 42 games for the Welsh side.

The verdict

This is a good move for McBurnie, but Swansea will be left devastated by the departure of such a popular figure and one of the club's key men.

The Swans have made no secret over the fact they need to balance the books with player sales, but McBurnie's exit will still be painful as it leaves the club very short of attacking options.

They must now look to recruit another striker before the deadline by delving into the loan and free transfer market, while Cooper now faces a tough choice in deciding who leads the line in the season opener.

From Sheffield United's perspective, this is a great signing as McBurnie fits exactly the profile of player that Wilder was looking to recruit this summer. He is a strong personality and a persistently hard worker who will fit right in under the Blades' boss.
