According to the Sheffield Star, Chris Wilder has agreed to sign a new deal with Sheffield United to put an end to the growing speculation around his future.

A real favourite of the Blades fan-base, it would have caused a real stink if he had left the club thanks to a rift in the boardroom.

That appears to have been resolved now, though, with the manager set to put pen to paper along with his coaching staff and commit their future to the club.

The Blades, of course, just missed out on the play-off places in the Championship last season as they looked to seal back-to-back promotions and losing Wilder would have killed the optimism spawned from that.

He looks to be staying put now, though, and the next plan will be to be aggressive in the transfer window in order to build on 2017/18.

The Verdict

This is great news for Blades fans.

Though they ended the season in relatively poor form there are surely few other managers they'd want in charge of their club right now.

The men from Bramall Lane have had a strong return to the second tier and losing their leader would have really brought that momentum to a halt.
