Sheffield United could still make a January move for Brentford defender John Egan, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

The 24-year-old was on the radar of Blades manager Chris Wilder during the summer window, but the club failed to land Egan. However, they could still now make a move for the Bees' defender, with United keen to add new faces to the squad following their excellent start to life in the Championship.

Egan, who is a full international with the Republic of Ireland, began his career with Sunderland before going out on various loan spells before rebuilding his career with Gillingham over two seasons.

Brentford signed him back in 2016, and he has gone on to become a regular for the Griffin Park side and has firmly cemented his place as one of the first choice centre backs at the club.

If he was to move to Bramall Lane, he would join former Brentford defender Jack O'Connell in moving to United over the last few seasons.

The Verdict

Egan has certainly been impressive over the last few seasons and interest comes as no surprise.

Chris Wilder has made no secret of his desire to add further defenders to his squad, and Egan is a ready made Championship defender who would slot in nicely at Bramall Lane.
