Sheffield United remain hopeful about their chances of signing Ryan Leonard and Ricky Holmes despite suffering frustrating setbacks in their pursuit of the duo, according to The Sheffield Star.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has told The Sheffield Star that the club will continue to pursue these two deals during the summer transfer window.

Charlton Athletic are very reluctant to let Holmes go this summer and have said that he is not for sale.

Ricky Holmes worked with Chris Wilder at Northampton Town and could be tempted to play at a higher level after winning the Player of the Year award at Charlton.

The 29-year-old winger struck an impressive thirteen goals in 35 League One outings for the Addicks last season.

Ryan Leonard is also high on Sheffield United's wishlist.

Millwall also want the talented central midfielder, who has been a long servant for the Essex based outfit.

The 25-year-old has played well over 200 games for Southend since joining the club in 2011 and has been attracting attention from the second tier this summer.

Southend have turned down two bids for Leonard so far but Sheffield United look likely to revisit this deal with an improved bid.

The Blades have already been busy in the transfer window and Wilder's policy of signing players from lower league clubs is evident.

Sheffield United have already signed Ched Evans from Chesterfield, Enda Stevens from Portsmouth and Nathan Thomas from Hartlepool.
