Sheffield United are lining up a move for out-of-favour Liverpool defender Ben Davies, just six months after he signed for the former Premier League champions from Preston North End, per Football Insider.

Davies is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Reds after being signed in the January transfer window, with fellow mid-season acquisition Ozan Kabak favoured ahead of him after injuries to Virgil Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez.

With a few of those names still not fully fit, Davies pulled on a Liverpool shirt for the first time against Wacker Innsbruck in a friendly this week, but he could still depart the club before the summer window slams shut.

The Sun reported last week that Liverpool were set to let Davies leave the club, with the return to fitness of their main defenders and the arrival of Ibrahima Konate pushing him further down the pecking order.

And Football Insider believe that the Blades have officially registered their interest in signing Davies this summer as Slavisa Jokanovic looks to strengthen his back-line, with Kean Bryan having departed Bramall Lane and Jack O'Connell set for further time on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The Verdict

If any deal is going to be done for Davies, it's likely to be a loan one as the centre-back will have likely gotten a significant pay-rise from his days at PNE when he moved to Anfield.

Jokanovic is seemingly desperate for a left-footed defender though after losing out on Matt Clarke to West Brom, and Davies would probably fit the bill more than most due to his mass experience of Championship football.

If Davies remains at Liverpool he isn't going to see the pitch but he may not want his Anfield experience to end just yet, especially after finally featuring for them in pre-season.

He has to be realistic though and see the calibre of player in-front of him when everyone is up to full fitness - and a move to United could give him a perfect platform to Premier League football in 2022.
