Sheffield United are considering a swoop for Liverpool starlet Ben Woodburn, according to The Yorkshire Post.

Despite signing David McGoldrick this summer to compete with Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp, Sheffield United want one more striker.

The Blades released Clayton Donaldson - who has since joined Bolton Wanderers - and sold David Brooks to Bournemouth.

And now they could swoop for Brooks' international team-mate Woodburn to solve their problems up top.

The Wales international is highly rated by Liverpool but could be sent out on loan to the Championship to gain valuable first-team experience.

Woodburn burst onto the scene when he scored against Leeds United in the EFL Cup at the age of 17.

The 18-year-old has played 11 senior games, as well as earning seven caps for Wales.

Sheffield United have also submitted a £5m bid for Ipswich Town's Martyn Waghorn, who scored 16 goals last season, as they attempt to bring in a new striker before the season starts.

The Verdict

Woodburn would be a superb loan signing for Sheffield United and his ability to play out wide or up front gives Chris Wilder options.

The talented teenager is full of flair, pace, skill and he has a real eye for goal.

A loan move to Bramall Lane would be the perfect next step in his career, rather than playing youth football for Liverpool.
