Reports from HITC have revealed that newly promoted Championship side Sheffield United are making attempts to sign Fleetwood Town striker Devante Cole from League One.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a blistering start to the 2017/18 campaign which has seen him score four goals in the opening four league games as Fleetwood sit fifth on the League One table.
Cole, who can play as either a left winger or an out and out striker, joined Fleetwood from Bradford City in January of last year and currently finds himself with just one year left on his contract at the club.
The report suggests that Fleetwood are reluctant to let Manchester United legend Andrew Cole’s son go without lining up a replacement.
The red-hot start that Cole has made to the League One season shows the potential that the young striker has so moving up to the next level would provide the challenge required to tap into that.
Whether he is a success or not at Championship level is yet to be seen but if Cole can replicate the form he has shown since joining Fleetwood then he could become a key player for Sheffield United.
With just a year left on his contract it is unlikely the 22-year-old will cost United too much and with the number of forwards they have at the club, they won’t be solely relying on him either.
