Victory in the South Wales derby against Cardiff City at the weekend saw Swansea City up to fourth in the Championship, with Steve Cooper's side now only two points behind league leaders West Brom.

Despite a return to winning ways, Cooper could be forgiven for being a little alarmed with a report in print edition of The Sun on Sunday (October 27, Page 61) suggesting that Sheffield United are lining up a bid for Swans defender Joe Rodon.

The 22-year-old has come through the Swans' academy and has now cemented himself as one of the Swansea's centre-backs in the first-team and his impressive displays have caught the attention of teams higher up the footballing pyramid.

So would Rodon be a good signing for the Blades? Could he cut it in the Premier League?

We discuss........

Dean Cooke

"Joe Rodon has been one of the star performers for the Swans this season, and he'll be hoping to continue that when he recovers from his injury which is set to rule him out for two months.

"Sheffield United are known for making signings for this type of calibre player from the Championship, and have proved that it can work if you look at their start to the Premier League campaign.

"I think it would be another shrewd signing for the Blades, and maybe he isn't quite Premier League quality yet, but he does have international experience and it will benefit him playing in a three at the back at Sheffield United due to the cover that he'll get to begin with.

"You'd assume that he'd cost quite a bit, although you never know with Swansea's owners and how they're going to sell, but it would be another low key Chris Wilder signing, that in my opinion would be good business."

Josh Cole

“This may turn to be an inspired signing by Chris Wilder if he can convince Joe Rodon to make the switch to Bramall Lane.

“One of Swansea’s stand-out performers this season, the defender has featured in all but one of the club’s league fixtures and is a key reason for why they are currently fourth in the Championship standings.

“Already capped by Wales at senior level, the 22-year-old seemingly has a bright future ahead of him and could realise his potential under the guidance of Wilder.

“Providing that Rodon can adapt to the Blades’ 3-5-2 formation, he could become a vital asset for the club in the not too distant future as they look to establish themselves at Premier League level.”

George Harbey

“I think Rodon is exactly what Sheffield United need, after establishing himself as one of the best up and coming defenders in the EFL.

“Not only is he commanding and dominant in the air, but he’s also excellent at playing the ball out from the back and on the deck, which would make him an excellent signing for the Blades.

“Jack O’Connell and Chris Basham love to bomb forward and get involved with attacks and you’d expect Rodon to be the same.

“With Phil Jagielka and Richard Stearman both approaching the latter stages of their playing career, Rodon would be a superb long-term option.”
