Having already secured the services of 10 new players this summer for the 2019/20 campaign, Blackpool manager Simon Grayson could be set to bolster his squad once again.

According to Football Insider, the Tangerines have agreed a deal with Sheffield United to sign Ben Heneghan on a season-long loan.

The 25-year-old defender has yet to make an appearance for the Blades this season in the Premier League with boss Chris Wilder making him surplus to requirements at Bramall Lane.

Heneghan spent the entirety of the previous campaign on loan with Blackpool, producing a number of impressive performances in League One as he helped the club secure a 10th place finish earlier this year.

Since handing over the reins to Grayson earlier this summer, the Tangerines have managed to make a barnstorming start to the season.

Currently top of the League One standings after amassing 10 points from their first four games, Blackpool will be aiming to continue their fine form when they head to the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday to face Brian Barry-Murphy's Rochdale.

The Verdict

If, as expected, the Tangerines do get a deal over the line for Heneghan, it could prove to be an incredibly shrewd bit of business by the club.

Whereas Blackpool have been fantastic in an attacking sense this season, questions still remain over their defensive capabilities as they have only managed to keep one clean-sheet in five competitive outings under Grayson.

With the Tangerines boss currently deploying a 3-4-3 formation at Bloomfield Road, Heneghan should have no issues slotting in at centre-back as the Blades operate in a similar defensive system.

If the former Motherwell man can hit the ground the running for Blackpool upon his arrival, there is no reason why he cannot help the club launch a real push for promotion in League One this season.
