Sheffield United are set to allow midfielder Oluwafemi Seriki out on loan to Belgium side Beerschot this summer so that he can get some valuable first-team minutes under his belt, according to The Sun on Sunday.

Seriki has emerged through Sheffield United’s youth academy and the midfielder was handed the chance to make his first league appearance for the Blades in the Premier League last term.

The 19-year-old featured in the closing minutes of their 1-0 loss at Newcastle United back in May coming off the bench to replace Jayden Bogle in stoppage time.

The Blades are thought to be keen to get some more first-team experience into some of their younger players next season with forward Daniel Jebbison closing in on a loan move to Sunderland as well.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Slavisa Jokanovic is thought to be ready to sanction a loan move for Seriki to Beershcot this summer so that he can get regular minutes in a competitive European league next term.

The Belgium club have just started their league campaign and are in the market to add to their squad after suffering a defeat against Cercle Brugge in their opening fixture.

The verdict

This is a move that makes a lot of sense really considering that Seriki was always going to be unlikely to be able to force his way into the starting line-up at Bramall Lane next season.

The midfielder clearly has something to offer and has potential to be developed over the coming years, but a loan move seems to be the best option for him at this stage in his career.

The 19-year-old had impressed enough in and around the training ground to earn a chance in the first-team in the Premier League last term and having had that taste of football at the highest level, the midfielder will surely be highly motivated for more action and keen to prove his worth to the Blades over the coming season out on loan.

Seriki is a player that the Blades should be keeping a close eye on in Belgium and if he can impress with Beerschot then there is no reason why he can not return to the club and make an impression with them over the next few years.

It seems that Beerschot will provide him with the chance to impress and therefore it makes perfect sense for all concerned does this move.
