Sheffield United recorded a fourth straight home win tonight, beating Hull City 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side have now opened up a 14-point gap over third place heading into tomorrow’s round of fixtures, with the Blades joining Burnley in taking huge strides towards the Premier League in early 2023.

Tonight, Daniel Jebbison’s early goal was enough for Sheffield United, who forced a handful of good saves out of Matt Ingram later in the evening.

Benjamin Tetteh would see red late on for Hull, for attempting to headbutt Oli McBurnie at a time when Heckingbottom’s men were on the ropes in a way.

Here’s how we rated the Blades tonight:

Wes Foderingham - 7: Produced a big save from Aaron Connolly to stop Hull responding instantly and showed good handling at other points in the game.

Jayden Bogle - 7: Holds his width so well on the right and was involved in the build-up to the winning goal, as well as forcing Alfie Jones into a big first-half block. A couple of good performances on the bounce now.

Anel Ahmedhodzic- 7: Stepping out of defence intelligently before Jebbison’s goal and doing his bit defensively, despite walking a tightrope following an early booking.

John Egan - 8: Played in a typically commanding way, which including a few big blocks and clearances midway through the second-half when Hull were looking for a route back into the game.

Jack Robinson - 6: A touch loose sometimes but still part of a very strong defensive unit that Hull were unable to break down.

Max Lowe - 6.5: A threat when he breaks forwards and offers a balance to Bogle on the opposite side. Did offer up some space early on down his flank, which is probably why his and Robinson’s mark is slightly lower.

Oliver Norwood - 7: Sets the tempo for Sheffield United, as well as producing a number of impressive long-range passes. Showed some bite, too, which lifted the crowd in the first-half, albeit landing himself a booking.

Tommy Doyle - 6: Couple of nice touches and forced a good save out of Ingram with a dipping shot. Faded around the hour before he was replaced.

Sander Berge - 5.5: Better than Saturday, producing a few dangerous crosses in the first-half and ghosting into a good position before heading over. Short of his best form by some distance still as he aims to get himself fully fit.

Iliman Ndiaye - 6: A threat on every occasion he gets the ball and, even on days when he isn’t dancing past defenders, commits men towards him, opening up space for others.

Daniel Jebbison - 7: Took his goal well and caused problems for Hull leading the line. A really good striker’s performance.

Subs

Adam Davies - Not used.

Chris Basham - 5: Replaced Berge to offer a more defensive-minded presence in the midfield.

Oli McBurnie - 6: A couple of nice touches and did what he does, enticing the opposition into doing something stupid. Tetteh reacted.

Billy Sharp - 5: Came on for Jebbison but wasn’t really in the game as Sheffield United dragged themselves over the line.

Ismaila Coulibaly - Not used.

Ben Osborn - 5: On alongside Sharp to provide some more energy to a tiring midfield, which he did.

James McAtee - Not used.
